The greatest directors all started their careers by making short films.
And now, you can too!
This course, conducted by the Sydney Short Film School, will help you gain a broad understanding of all the technical and performance aspects of making a short film. You will be learning all the secrets for success from a Tropfest-winning tutor at the National Headquarters of the Australian Cinematographers Society in North Sydney - the best venue for any film-making course in Sydney!
The course runs on four consecutive Wednesday evenings starting from 29th August 2012, and then the 5th, 11th, 18th and 25th September 2012.
Included is one Saturday (15th September 2012) for shooting a movie.
Ideally, you will need a Laptop Computer.
The course runs as follows:-
Session 1) The Script.
Creating characters and the importance of story. A study of character archetypes and the mythological steps in every great story ever told. Thinking of locations. Correct script formatting. How to use a modern script-writing package (provided free with the course for you to use for ever!).
Session 2 and 3) The Technicals.
Lights, camera! How to set-up a proper lighting arrangement for film. How to use a DSLR camera (white balance, exposure, framing and sound). Directing the actors (getting the performance) and shooting.
Session 4) The Shoot.
Finally, ACTION! The class votes on a script which will be made into a short film. The class (which will now become the actors and crew!) will go out and shoot the film using a modern DSLR camera and recording equipment. Each student will get an opportunity to appear in the movie, operate the camera, and DIRECT! (1 full day).
Session 5) The Edit.
We look at basic editing techniques:- types of cut, when to use transitions, sound mixing, rules surrounding music etc. Each student can (if they wish) take a copy of the camera footage and edit it on their own PC
Session 6) Wrap up.
The final review of each of the edited versions and lessons learned, along with next steps and an invitation to join the ACS.
Five evenings x 2.5 hours, and 1 day's shoot (6 hours). Just $325!
